History

From 1986 the company, John Wells Contracting was heavily involved in asbestos abatement, interior demolition and remodeling of commercial buildings. Many of our projects required high security clearances to work on projects such as Edwards Air Force California, Security Pacific Banks Lost Angeles, a bank in the burned out ATT building in Los Angeles, the sub floor #2 at the Pentagon, Washington DC and several others.

As that industry began to wane (for us), the company became more involved in mechanical contracts and leaning toward power plants with turbine and generator repair activities. These included several ‘unnamed’ submarines in San Diego, large rebuild projects in California, New Jersey and Texas. In Texas alone we had projects at 37 different locations with several return projects at the same facilities.

“Powermain now has the competency skills and the professional engineering connections to develop projects from conception to commissioning, startup and operations of refineries”

As a spin off and upgrade from John Wells Contracting, Powermain LLC was incorporated in Texas in 2002. Our earlier focus was providing resource support for other companies in the turbine/generator power plant market. Many of these power plant projects were located inside refineries which gave us access to additional opportunities in the refinery industry. We also became active in the area of refinery shut downs, rebuilds, revamps and contract administrations of some of these refinery projects. Powermain began to increase its competency skills in refinery project development and over the years began to have more emphasis directed toward smaller refineries below 25,000 BPSD.

Powermain now has the competency skills and the professional engineering connections to develop projects from conception to commissioning, startup and operations of refineries. We normally fill this role as Project Developer. The Power Plant projects and the refinery projects carried us to Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Canada and Nigeria. At various times we have had field offices in those countries. Powermain is still active in those areas as the need arises.

In 2012 Powermain began to search for alternatives to diverge our interest to guard against political and economic unrest which adversely affected small businesses. While still retaining our interest in our earlier activities we selected the oil field, oil lease industry with an emphasis on marginal leases and stripper wells. This area of the crude oil industry is largely ignored but can be reasonably profitable.

We did not go into this new area with no knowledge of the industry. At one time John Wells, the CEO, worked in the oil and gas fields as an environmentalist and contract administrator with over 226 oil/gas wells under his supervision. Those activities involved both maintenance of oil wells, gas wells, new drill projects and the extensive gathering system. See our page “Focus on Oil”.
